Abstract

Shape of Bali strait is narrow in nothern part that connected with Bali Sea and very wide in the southern part which related with the Indian Ocean. The hydrological features of Bali Strait waters are significantly influenced by characteristics of the water masses of Indian ocean. This geographic condition resulted in the high nutrient especially during southeast monsoom when upwelling occurs, that results the abudance of fisheries resources. Demersal fish resources in Bali Straits waters are not exploited yet by local fishermen. Study on demensial fish resources by employing swept area method had been conducted especially in the eastern part Bali Strait waters by using RV Baruna Jaya IV.
Stock density of demersal fish in the eastern part of Bali Strait waters were varied depend on the bottom depth, with the lighest one recorded in depth range from 41m to 60 m. Twenty five families consisted of 43 genera are identified during this study which the respective predominant fishes are Carangidae, Leiognatllidae, Pomadasyidae, and Dasyatidae. Based on the dominant species and size of fish in the catch, there are two type of fishing gears probably could be developed i.e., bottom long line and bottom gill net.
